faq continued—Part 2

I've seen ads for web services that charge very little for webpages/sites. Why do you charge more?

Just because you "know HTML" or have an HTML editor, doesn't mean you can design an effective site. There is no substitute for years of design training, computer programming and experience. What you're really paying for is this experience. When you compare work similar to ours you'll see that our prices are actually lower than what you'll find elsewhere.

Also, many of the services that advertise low costs in the design aspects of a website make it up on the back-end. They either make the bulk of their money from maintaining the site after it's up and running (through a package deal—see previous question) or they may own a hosting company and use design as a come-on when actually their focus is hosting, not design and development.

Can I update my site myself?

If you're comfortable with making minor changes to your site you are more than welcome to do so. Of course, we'll give you a hand if you need help. The one thing we don't recommend is making major changes to your site yourself. We've see numerous people run into problems in an attempt to cut corners and save a few dollars.

How will my site be hosted and how much does this cost?

Depending on your needs your site will either be hosted on a UNIX server or on a Windows NT server. Usually, unless you need database or CGI driven pages you'll be setup on UNIX since it's less expensive. There are two costs associated with the server setup—the initial setup fee and the monthly hosting fee. Contact us for the latest rates.
